Ila Marie Anderson McIlvain

Some highlights:
-
I taught in
Garnavillo, Iowa, for one year before getting married.
We both
taught in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, while Bill completed his
college
work
at John Brown University.
- In 1958 we moved to Cheyenne and joined the public school teaching staff.
- We worked for a number of years as youth directors at First Baptist in Cheyenne.
- We served as short-term assistants, teachers, for Wycliffe Bible Translators at Yarinacocha, Peru, South America, 1965-67.
-
We took the
family around the world as part of a teaching position at
theAmerican
International School of Kabul (AISK), Afghanistan, 1972-74.
We traveled to Kabul via the western route through Hawaii, Japan,
Hong
Kong,Thailand, and India and returned to the States through
Iran, Israel,
Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland and
England. Our overseas teaching
experiences
provided some of
the most memorable years of our lives as a family.
- All four children have been overseas at least once since our return from Afghanistan.
Present Status (summer of 1984)
Ila: Has been an instructor in Early Childhood Education and education at Laramie County Community College since the fall of 1978.
Is
serving
as
President of the Wyoming Early Childhood Association.
With
Bill,
is
actively involved at Meadowbrooke Baptist Church, team-teaching a
young married couples class among other ministries.
Bill:
Has
been an instructor in political science at Laramie County
Community
College since the fall of 1979.
Has served
six terms in the Wyoming House of Representatives.
At present he is Majority (Republican) Whip.
He serves on numerous commissions and committees as part of his
legislative duties and responsibilities.
Lavonda:
Graduated
from John Brown University. She and Brian are in the real estate
appraisal business in Cheyenne. She works
as Brian's secretary and as the computer operator.
They are
active at Meadowbrooke Baptist Church where Brian serves on the
Shepherd's board.
Sandra:
Graduated
from Wichita State after attending Tabor College for two years.
She
and
David
live in Wichita, Kansas, Sandra teaches first grade. David
is assistant director of
property for Presbyterian Manors of
Mid-America.
They
are
both
active in the Mennonite church in Wichita where David's father is
the
pastor.
Larry:
Attended
Tabor College for two years, then graduated, in 1983, from
the
University of Wyoming.
He
is
now
teaching at McCormick Junior High in Cheyenne
(1984-85). He teaches social studies
and
coaches
football.
Last summer he supervised a
special program for underprivileged high school students.
In a few years he would like to apply for an overseas teaching position, preferably in the Middle East.
Mark:
Is in
his second year at John Brown University, majoring in elementary education. He is a member of both
the swim team and the rugby team.
We are grateful for the priceless Christian
heritage
established for us by Victor and Hannah Anderson and passed from
generation
to generation. We thank the
Lord for our children who are faithfully serving Him and for our
host
of
Anderson relatives who we know
are sharing His love with others, each in his or her
own special part of God's creation. May God bless you all.
