Born July 9, 1926 to Oscar and Ruth Anderson Johnson in LaPorte, Indiana.
At age two moved to 435 Holliday St, Michigan City, Indiana.
Graduated from Michigan City High School 1944.
Worked at Smith Brothers
Cough Drop Factory for one year.
Went to Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., to
major
in
biology with intent to teach
high school biology. Graduated from
Wheaton College in June
1948.
First teaching position was Wheaton Academy, starting in September, 1948.
In September 1950 Joyce Giles started teaching
girls
P.E. at Wheaton Academy.
Married Joyce
Giles in Stratford, Wisc. on August 25, 1951.
Earned an M.S. from Northwestern University in
June, 1953.
Became headmaster
at Wheaton Academy in 1954.
Son Douglas Giles born on May 1, 1956; Son Stephen Duncan born on June 7, 1960.
Moved to 217 Gary Ave., Wheaton, Ill, in August 1960 - still there [1984]
Joined the faculty of High School District 214 in September of 1960.
Joyce completed her M.S. in Guidance at Northern Illinois University in June 1968.
Joyce joined the guidance department of Wheaton North H.S. in September of 1969.
Mel still in District 214, Joyce in Wheaton,
living
at 217 Gary still...spending
good times in Michigan not far from 'home' in Michigan City,
Indiana.
